On September 22, 2013, 2-4:30 p.m., Kunqu Society will host a Kunqu performance to celebrate the society’s 25th anniversary and honor the late Mrs. Lingwen Wang, a famed Chinese painter and devoted Kunqu practitioner, and her late husband, Mr. Yutseng Wang, a Chinese calligrapher. The event will be held at the Florence Gould Hall at FIAF (55 East 59th Street, New York). The program is free admission, with tickets required for assigned seating.
For this performance Kunqu Society has invited three distinguished Kunqu artists from the Suzhou Kunqu Theatre Troupe in Jiangsu province of China: Ms. Fang Wang, Mr. Wenlin Zhao, and Mr. Chisun Tang. These guest performers will share the stage with our resident artists, Ms. Jiehua Shi, Mr. Dezhang Wu, and Mr. Qinglin Cai, in a program that features scenes from The Story of the White Rabbit, Pan Jinlian, and The Palace of Eternal Youth. Ms. Ling Yang, the society’s resident artist from the younger generation, as well as outstanding younger performers in New York: Ms. Nuo Dai, Ms. Yan Liang, Ms. Yuxia Liu, Mr. Qingfeng Li, and Mr. Zhenjiang will participate in the program.
Kunqu Society has also invited three musicians from the Suzhou Kunqu Theatre Troupe: the preeminent flutist Mr. Jianliang Zou, drumme Mr. Shilin Xin, and sheng player Mr. Mingjun Zhou. They will join our New York musicians Mr. Shirong Huang, Mr. Jingqiang Guo, Mr. Wenjie Xia, and Ms. Yi Zhou for this show.
